Here’s the documents describing the dock work needed.

Voluntary Sign-Up for Dock Work Parties

Ladies and Gents,

We are right now a little under three weeks before this year’s launch. To be able to launch successfully, we need to be able to work around the Covid 19/social distancing issue, high water and, most importantly, the docks.

I say “most importantly” for the docks because, even if social distancing is relaxed or lifted and the water level stays below the 249-foot threshold (which I believe will happen), we still have to have the docks in working order in order to safely moor the boats.

Here’s where it gets tricky; I do not want to go against state directives for social distancing or risk members’ health to fix the docks. I also do not want to bring financial liability to the club if someone gets sick or worse. But, with that said, there are things that we can do to mitigate the circumstances of this situation and get the work done. So, this is the plan to fix the docks that I’m enacting:

1.    I will post a summary and description of the tasks online in the members’ section on our website that have to be done over the next three weeks to get the docks in shape. They may take a day or two to get loaded depending on how quick I can get Rob to help me. We got a good jump on the docks at our last work party on March 13. I went down this past week and re-evaluated what needs to be done. I have ranked them in order of importance.

2.    I will also post online in our members’ section (and in this e-mail) a sign-up sheet of up to nine names per task who can VOLUNTARILY work on the docks if they happen to be down at the club on that day. Click on the link below to sign up. Members can work on these projects any day over the next three weeks. For simplicity of logistics and use, I have only set up the sign-up sheet one week out. I’ll rework it and send it out again next week and the week after. Again, your work on the docks is voluntary and not required. But we CAN do this. (see my comments below from talking to the Monroe County Sheriffs Office this past week)

3.    If there is a particular task (project) that you think you can do, then please put your name down next to that task (project)t as well as the day and time that you will be down at the club to do it. (Thanks to Gary Hartman for providing me a web site to create this sign-up) I set up the work blocks in two-hour increments (8,10,12,2)  Also, please see the following conditions under which members will have to meet in order to work down at the club.

a.    Conditions for working on the docks down at the club

1.    Like I previously mentioned, I went down to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office in Spencerport this past week to inquire about whether we can work as a group at the club under the current social distancing guidelines. Here is what I was told:

2.    The sheriff’s office has been told by their superiors that they should “educate” the public instead of arrest or ticket people for violating the social distancing guidelines. According to the deputy to whom I spoke, groups of ten or more people can not gather together, but if (hypothetically) members came down to the club and happened to be working on their boats and if these less-than-ten members decided that they wanted to work on the docks, then (as long as they wore masks, gloves and tried to stay six feet apart)  there shouldn’t be any problem.

3.    So, to work down at the club, the following conditions must be met:

                                                                                                 i.      Less than ten members must be working on the docks together

ii.      Members must wear gloves and masks

iii.      Members must try to maintain a six-foot distance

iv.      Members with pre-existing health conditions (asthma, heart problems, etc.) should not work with others on the docks

                                                                                               v.      Members age 65 or older should not work on the docks

vi.      Members who are sick with ANYTHING should not work on the docks (no colds, flu, sinus infections, etc.)

I will update you on launch preparations this Thursday at our general membership meeting via Zoom.

Thanks,

Rich
